Love how this works with my Nest Thermostat.
Love how this works with my Nest Thermostat.
Great app, but I don’t see updates from the developer as much as I would like. I like the convenience of adjusting my thermostat from my Mac, but I do run into issue with this app on a consistant basis, enough to look for an alternative. First issue I come accross often is when I click on the icon in the staus bar where it lives it doesn’t drop down no matter how many times I click or how long I wait. This forces me to right click the icon and quit the app and start it back up again. Second issuie is whenever I start the app and click on the thermostat I was to adjust it shows me the how to use guide in EVERY SINGLE SESSION. Once how to is great, but this app doesn’t rememer that it told me this informaiton already which drives me nuts. Other then that app is just a glorified web broweser that lives in your status bar and gives you the same interface that Nest’s website offers. I would like to see these issues fixed and hopefully some major redeigns to offer a more usable experience.
The first thing I notice when I boot up my machine with a fast SSD is that the Climate app menu drops down and is blank for a long time before it fills in the interface. And if I dont need to use it at that moment, i have to wait for it to finish its thing so I can close it and continue working. I went to Activity Monitor to check its stats, and it was using an astounding 1.3GB of RAM. Clearly there are bugs to be worked out.
You’re on your mac, you have a web browser yet you use an app to display the website. This is the lazyest app ever, I love it. The app seems to work as described/correctly to me, same as the Iphone app.
I have been using this app on my Imac for about 6 months now and have had no issues, Works as if you were on the webiste with the same interface. I does use about 98mb of memory, but if your going to run a lot of apps in the background you have to expect this and prepare you computer with enough ram to handle the tasks your gping to give it, that’s way I run 32GB on my mac. Reading some of the other reviews, I have not had any of these problems, the apps opens fast and works the same as if you were on the website. This app was well worth the money spent and I use it more to control my nest than the app on my Samsung note 3 or note 10.1 (2014) tablet. I definitely recommend this app for a convient way to control your Nest products. I would like to see more options for control and longer energy usage history (2 months), but that is up to Nest to fix and has nothing to do with this app.
Please add dark-mode support for the menubar. Great menubar app for OS X. Would like the drop-down menu to be smaller in scale. Something like 1Passwords or Evernotes
This is a very nice app - I’ve been using it for a while and I’m not disappointed. It’s got a few minor bugs to it but nothing that really stands out as a major problem. One bug I would like to note is that if you are running OS X Yosemite in dark mode the menu bar icon remains black instead of turning to white - kind of makes dark mode unusable with this app, but it’s a new feature and the app has not yet been updated. Outside of that though, it works great!
I have been using this app for quite a while now and it works exactly as expected. The Energy History is very helpful in knowing how much fuel burn time is being used. I really appreciate the additional menu selection (the 3 horizontal preference bars) versus the undocumented click on the thermostat of the iPhone App! It really should be this simple! It is also appreciated that when the unit goes offline via a power or internet outage it is reported.
I thought that the temperature at the top would have the option to have the inside temp - not the inside temp setting. That really doesnt fluctuate once you set it. It would be nice to be able to toggle between say 3 options - inside - outside and inside setting. BETTER YET - option to have both inside temp and outside temp in this app. I currently use a weather app and yours.
The app is good but hasn’t been updated in a year. OSX Yosemite gives a long-awaited option to turn the menu bar dark, which unfortunately Climate does not adapt to. You end up with an unreadable black-on-black temperature output.
The smaller window is greatly appreciated as is the prevent away mode, it was annoying when I work away from the Nest to have the heating turn off. With all this handoff seamless mobile to desktop stuff having Mac and mobile access to Nest control is really handy, I just wish WeMo did the same thing with a Mac App.
Terrific app by Joe Workman! It is extremely convenient to have quick access to the thermostat from the menubar. Very clean UI and this version seems fairly stable so far.
After a period of time with no updates, Climate is on the mark with the NEst device and app. All is working well and I especially appreicate the abilit to see outside temp’s and humidity directly on the NEST devise now. I have a updairs and downstairs therm. and both work flawlessly. Great job! Now lets increase the font size just a tab more :) Wouldnt have any other Thermostate.
I was reading a blog article on a few Nest thermostat apps for your Mac. this one is the best of the bunch! one had widget access, great idea but not executed correctly. i use the heat and cool thermostat settings and this was the only one that worked. I set the Nest to turn on my Air or Heat which ever is needed so i can use the nest year round with minimal interaction.this app is better because it works up in the finder menu bar rather than the widgets menu thing. widget menu thing is up and coming but i like being able to cluck once in the finder bar to or to be able to see the nest temp settings without having to open the widgets thing.
I absolutely love this App - or the idea of it. Having the temp and controls in the menu bar is a dream. HOWEVER - too often I get the “unable to communicate” message when trying to use it. This morning the menu bar showed 68º while the thrmostat itself was at 63º, which is where it was set. I used my iphone Nest app to adjust the temp up a few degrees. Then this app regained its mind. This happens too often. Fix the bug and it will be five stars in my book.
$4.99 for a an app that embeds the Nest website in a browser? Granted, paying $250 for the Nest it shouldn’t be a big deal, but this is a rip off.
Too often too many times can’t open the App…unable to adjust thermostat, App almost daily unable to “Communicate” with Nest and App will log out on it’s own many times per day. Reported these issues weeks ago no resolution. Have to rely upon App on my iPod on a daily axis. Going on 90 days since I reported prob[ems to developer and yet as recently as today all the problems continue unresolved as of 01/08/2015!
I love this App. I constantly change the AC temperature using my iPhone Nest App, but now I can just sit at my computer, while I work, and change it without reaching for my phone. Awesome!
This app solves a major problem for me: keeping the Nest from going to Away Mode when I work from home and am not moving around in the main area of the house. So glad there was something like this on the App Store.
Download the free iOS version. Thi sisnt worth the $4.99 for the app.
