NEST Thermostat

Best thing since chopped liver. LOVE it. Can control 3 thermosrats and based on my schedule. Easy to change through computer or iPhone. Can analyze and change throught all seasons. Can turn down when I retire to bed at various times. Saving a lot of energy. Can tell when heat or A/C are not runnng properly. Reminds me to clean filters. Can see exactly when each unit ran and was off during the last week so I can make adjustments if necessary. VERY EASY TO CHANGE SCHEDULES FOR ENTIRE WEEK OR ANY SPECIFIC DAY. I hated standing at the thermostats making complicated adjustment all the time. Never have to get off my chair to adjust units now & it is very easy. Had for 1 year no trouble. Only complaint is on rare occasions I lose wi fi connection for a brief while on 1 of the 3 thermostats.

Works well

Does exactly what it says it does. Opens up a web wrapper so you can manage your Nest products using the Nest web interface. I agree with others, though, it’s over priced for what it does. $2 would be a more reasonable price.

DON’T DOWNLOAD

Unless you just like wasting money. This app is nothing more than a wrapper for the Nest website.

buggy software, works good — when it works

Can’t view the energy history in full. It is too zoomed in. Also, after waking up Macbook Pro from sleep, the app has a hard time reconnecting & I have to manually reconnect in order for it to work. Also, why are there options to change the notification tone? Using the generic tone is overused in general. When this app notifies me, I want it to NOTIFY ME. Integrate ability to use additional tones or custom tones please!! Fix these issues & you’ll get a 5 star for sure!

Stupidest software update ever

After yesterdays update the application rendered useless: mode switch menu screwed up – allows choose only "cool-heat" or "off". Does not show temperature settings in the status bar no more (as well as "away" status). Does not show devices in devices list and does not react on clicking "refresh devices" button. And, finally: "Support" button does not work. Nice touch, guys!

Not working after recent Nest update

The app works to control devices (after the resizing) but doesn’t display the temperature any more in the menu bar after the most recent Nest update. Pretty sorry update schedule for a $5 app if you ask me.

This needs to be updated

This used to work very well. However, when the nest software updated in mid June; the app no longer tells you the status of your thermostat on the menu bar, nor does it notify of any changes of status like it used to. Please update the app.

No longer works

This application no longer works due to a change in the Nest UI from about a month ago. Given that the app hasn’t been updated since November, it seems likely to be dead at this point. Do not buy.

Great App except

Great update to Climate. I have a dropcam, Nest, and Protect and it’s great seeing all together. I decided I had enough of Flash and thru it under the bus, so to speak. Too many security problems over and over. But I see you use Flash for the Dropcam portion of your App. Alas, only 2 will work on my iMac.

Menu bar icon not showing temp

It works great but the menu bar icon does not show the the Nest temperature anymore after the last update. It will only show the leaf no matter what settings I change.

Neglected App

I’ve been using “Climate” since its development days as “Nest” does not have an OS X application. At that time it was fantastic; the developer was quick to answer questions, address bugs and kept evolving the application. Unfortunately that isn’t the case any more as the application hasn’t seen any updates since last November. This is especially troublesome given the overhaul Google has done with Nest after the acquistion. Save yourself the $4.99 and just use the native “Nest” mobile app.

abandonware

Be warned - the developer is not updating this application to keep up with nest api changes. The image on this page that shows the temperature in the menubar is misleading. This feature no longer works.

Had been a good app

Nest updated their interface and Climate has not been changed. Every time I reboot, I have to resize the window. Additionally, there are some features that just don’t work because of the changes made by Nest. When writing to JoeWorkman, the response I received was poor which could be summarized as: it broked because of Nest so resize the window because we have bigger and better things to work on.

Almost useless now.

App hasn’t been updated in a very long time. First window sizing issues others have commented on here. Now login does not stay logged in. I have to manually log in every time I startup my machine. It’s disappointing because the app had so much potential. Trashed.

Most Expensive, Mostly Broken

I agree with other recent reviewers. This app is currently abandonware. I received a similar support response as posted by others (seems to be a canned ZenDesk response). The window has to be resized with each launch / reconnect to reach all the controls. The screenshot-advertised features of easy menubar access to a specific device no longer work (and haven’t for months, due to a Nest API change). The developer promises to update it when he’s no longer busy with something else. See below for the actual response. The developer should do the honest, responsible thing and pull the app from the App Store until the broken features he’s advertising (the entire point of the app - that which supposedly makes it better than just using the Nest website and therefore worth paying $5 for). More importantly, Apple should be noticing these reviews (sort them by most recent) and proactively holding the developer accountable for key features that are and remain broken for months, and which the developer is “too busy” to update until sometime in the future, he promises. Refund definitely requested. — Response from JoeWorkman “Support Jedi” — Sorry about this, but unfortunately Nest updated their user interface a few months or so ago. This update has broken some things in Climate, like the menu temperature. This was a Nest update and not a Climate update. If you are having issues controlling the Nest from the window, remember the window can be adjusted, so if it is too small, adjust the window to be bigger. Unfortunately Nest did not inform any developers that this was going to happen and we are currently in the getting close to wrapping up a huge product launch, and Joe does not have the time right now to dive in and fix what the Nest update has broken. We will do a bug fix for Climate, but we have no ETA on when this will happen. Again, sorry about this and sorry for the delay, but there will be a fix coming. — End of Response —

Won’t even launch on my Mac.

The application will not even start. Totally useless.

Neglected App

Like many other reviews, it’s obvious the developer stopped spending time fixing problems due to some changes to the Nest website. Many of the features we rely on don’t work. After reporting the problems to the developer, it was clear he knew about the problems and wasn’t in much of a hurry to fix them. The last update was in Nov of 2014 and it shows. This is overpriced considering the problems and the lack of devolvement. There are cheaper and free apps that offer the same functions.

Works well, but has a serious flaw

The setup is easy, and it works reliably, but it continuously uses 10% of my CPU, draining my battery. Please fix.

Sporadic operation.

When it remains connected it works great. The problems that I experience is that the app. indicates it’s offline several times a week which require me to manually adjust the thermostat before it works, or I have to do a complete logon to the app. and hope it connects. I’m a bit disappointed after a few years of flawless operation that I now have to tinker with this so often.

Not working anymore

NEEDS UPDATING; DOES NOT FULLY WORK ANYMORE! After updating to El Capitan, the menu bar temp no longer displays. Also, the app constantly needs to be reconnected. Doesn’t work like it used to...
